Putting It All Together
Congratulations — you have completed the R.I.T.H.M curriculum! This final week is about reviewing everything you have learned, testing yourself at the highest levels, and building a practice plan for continued growth.
Learning Goals
Course Review
Phase 1: Foundations (Weeks 1-4)
You started with the musical alphabet, sharps and flats, reading notes on treble and bass clefs, and understanding rhythm and time signatures. These are the building blocks everything else is built on.
Phase 2: Scales & Intervals (Weeks 5-8)
You learned major and minor scales, all intervals from unison through octave, and began serious ear training. You can now hear the "color" of different intervals and distinguish major from minor.
Phase 3: Harmony (Weeks 9-12)
You built and identified all four triad types, explored key signatures through the Circle of Fifths, and discovered pentatonic and blues scales. You can now hear chords and understand their emotional quality.
Phase 4: Advanced Topics (Weeks 13-16)
You learned chord progressions and Roman numeral analysis, seventh chords and jazz harmony, all seven modes, and how everything connects together. You now have a solid foundation in music theory.
Final Challenge Activities
Challenge 1: Advanced Note Reading Marathon
Set the Note Reading game to Advanced, Both clefs, and cycle through at least 5 different key signatures. Aim for 50 total answers with 80%+ accuracy.
Challenge 2: Full Ear Training Gauntlet
Play each ear training game on Advanced for 10 rounds each. Track your accuracy:
- Interval Training — All directions
- Chord Identification — Block and Arpeggio
- Scale Identification — Both directions
- Pitch Identification — Full chromatic range
- Duration Hearing — Complex rhythms
Challenge 3: Compose a Short Piece
Using the Synthesizer and Metronome, compose a short 8-measure melody. Choose a key, pick a chord progression (try I-V-vi-IV), and create a melody that outlines the chord tones. This is where all your skills come together.
Challenge 4: Duration Hearing — Advanced
Push Duration Hearing to Advanced. Identify complex rhythmic patterns including dotted notes and syncopation. Your rhythmic ear should be as sharp as your melodic ear.
Challenge 5: Chord Reading Mastery
Achieve 30 correct answers with 70%+ accuracy in the Chord Reading game. Read triads and 7th chords fluently from notation — a skill that ties together everything you have learned about harmony.
Challenge 6: Scale Reading Mastery
Achieve 30 correct answers with 70%+ accuracy in the Scale Reading game. Identify scales and modes from staff notation alone. This is the ultimate test of your music reading ability.
Challenge 7: Duration Reading Mastery
Achieve 30 correct answers with 70%+ accuracy in the Duration Reading game. Identify all note and rest symbols including sixteenth notes, dotted values, and rhythm patterns on sight.
What's Next?
Completing this course is a major achievement, but it is just the beginning. Here is how to keep growing:
- Daily Practice: Keep using all R.I.T.H.M games — ear training, note reading, chord reading, scale reading, duration hearing, and duration reading — for 15-20 minutes daily. Alternate between games to keep all skills sharp.
- Apply to Real Music: Start analyzing songs you love. Identify the key, chord progressions, scales, and intervals used.
- Learn an Instrument: If you haven't already, apply your theory knowledge to piano, guitar, or any instrument.
- Explore Further: Topics like counterpoint, form and analysis, orchestration, and music composition await you.
- Compete: Use the Leaderboard to track your progress and challenge other learners.
