Chord Identification by Ear

Reach 70% accuracy on Beginner chord ID.

Lesson

Train your ear, not just your hands

Knowing chord shapes only takes you so far. Once your ear can tell major from minor, you can play with anyone who calls a chord by name — without looking at the fretboard.

The drill

Open Chord Identification on Beginner. Listen, decide, choose. Aim for at least 10 correct at 70% accuracy. Don't second-guess yourself — your first impression is usually right.

What to listen for

  • Major chords sound bright, settled, like the answer to a question.
  • Minor chords sound darker, suspended, like the question itself.
  • Diminished and augmented sound off-balance — you'll learn those later.

This lesson auto-completes when your Beginner chord-ID stats hit 10 correct at 70% accuracy.
